@Nigeria Health Watch with social media influencer fellows responding to health misinformation

  • Year: 2024

I always enjoy speaking with colleagues who work in the health misinformation space in their countries. This time, I chatted with the social media infleuncer fellows to address health misinformation of Nigeria Health Watch.

Some tidbits:

1/ Health communication cannot overcome programmatic failures. Sometimes you just need to fix the health programme, and not just talk about it.

2/ Accurate health information needs to outcompete health misinformation.

3/ Use positive or gain-focused message frames instead of fear or risk-based message frames.

4/ AI is a tool – use it thoughtfully for health communication.

5/ Experiment with AI tools so you understand how best to use them in your workflow and what their limitations are.

6/ When in doubt always check with a health worker or public health professional.

7/ Use of content with logos of prominent organizations doesn’t work if people don’t trust these organizations.
