Editorial in HPI: Health promotion in the algorithmic age

In this editorial, we argue that it’s time to retool the Ottawa Charter’s tenets for the digital era by recognizing the information environment as a core determinant of health. The internet has shifted from being a digital library into an ecosystem designed to monetize our attention, which profoundly shapes people’s opinions and health decisions. We suggest that to truly promote health today, public health professionals must move beyond just mitigating risks and actively champion digital design choices that prioritize well-being over profit.
